Levent Piker, Marine Biologist, is co-founder of the company CRM - Coastal Research & Management (Kiel) and works on anthropogenic impacts on marine ecosystems and ICZM, however, has directed his research focus on seaweed compounds over the last ten years. At oceanBASIS GmbH (www.oceanbasis.de), a company developing and marketing marine natural products, mainly bioactive ingredients from algae and the certified natural cosmetics brand “Oceanwell”, he is managing partner, head of R&D, while also being responsible for innovation management and internet marketing. Several studies and publications on pollution, ecotoxicity, impact of aquaculture, and health-related effects of marine natural substances. Member of the Society of Marine Sciences (DGM), the “North Alliance Marine Biotechnology” and “Transmare e.V.”, an NGO, which informs and educates on marine issues with respect to AGENDA 21, Chapter 17. He is actively involved in developing a strategy of marine biotechnology on enterprise, national and European level. He has participated in numerous working groups, conferences and seminars in the national and international context for this topic since the late 90s.
